Drillmaster Guide for Sword Warriors
Clear level-gated HP and Attack drills after every rebirth—especially the big World 19 HP upgrades.
Drillmaster NPCs are the permanent stat tutors of Sword Warriors. After you hit specific level gates, you can enter a short training fight that permanently raises how much HP or Attack you gain per invested stat point. Because every rebirth sends you back toward low levels with “soft” feeling stats, Drillmaster upgrades are what make “level 50 after 80 rebirths” hit harder than “level 50 after five.” This guide explains the workflow, world locks, why you should clear drills every rebirth, and why World 19 is famous for large HP jumps. Pair it with Worlds and the Beginner Build.
What Drillmaster actually upgrades
Drillmaster does not give a one-time flat HP potion. It improves the per-point yield of your HP or Attack allocation. After a successful drill:
- Future points spent in that stat buy more value.
- Past investment effectively scales better as you rebuild after rebirths.
- Skipping a drill leaves permanent strength on the table for every future level in that rebirth cycle—and every cycle after.
There are separate HP-focused and Attack-focused drill tracks with their own level requirements. Early drills move in smaller steps; later world drills publish much larger before/after values.
The every-rebirth loop
Make Drillmaster part of the rebirth ritual:
- Rebirth as soon as the UI allows (see How to Rebirth).
- Rebuild HP until trash packs stop deleting you.
- Add Attack once sustain is acceptable.
- Climb to the next Drillmaster level gate.
- Clear the drill (bring iframe skills and, if needed, Ikun’s Sing Jump stall).
- Continue waves or rebirth again when ready.
Players who rebirth, dump points, and ignore the newly unlocked drill waste the entire point of the system. The drill is the multiplier; the points are the input.
Level gates and world locks
Drillmaster boards advance as you enter new worlds and as the developer ships updates. Two rules matter:
- Level gate: You must reach the listed character level in the current rebirth to attempt that drill tier.
- World / update lock: Some higher drills stay locked until the next world opens or an update unlocks the board. If the NPC refuses you despite meeting the level, you are waiting on content—not on more grinding in the same map.
Because gates climb into the high hundreds and beyond on late boards, high rebirth counts (which raise level caps) are required to even see endgame drills. That is another hidden reason Herald / Archon / Legend rebirth titles correlate with stronger accounts.
Combat tips inside the drill
Drill fights are concentrated burst checks:
- Bind WhirlWind / Hurricane Slash before you talk to the NPC.
- Equip Priest or a strong regen ornament if the drill pack hits hard.
- Redeem Ikun (
ZHIYINNITAIMEIon Codes) so Sing Jump can tank aggro for six seconds while you free-hit. - Do not enter a drill at 10% HP after a world wipe—reset in town first.
If you fail, spend a few levels on HP, re-enchant or swap ornaments, and retry. Drill failures are cheaper than skipping the upgrade for an entire rebirth.
World 19 and big HP gains
World 19: Red King is widely called out for large HP Drillmaster jumps alongside its retro art, ~11 world swords, and the Spark of Motivation ornament. Community world videos highlight that the W19 drill board is one of the reasons late accounts feel dramatically tankier after catching up on rebirths and drills—not only because swords got stronger. When you unlock Red King (waves 901–950), prioritize:
- Surviving the retro wave band with current ornaments.
- Clearing newly visible Drillmaster HP tiers even if egg hatching looks tempting.
- Banking the Spark of Motivation Duck reward.
- Only then dumping spare gems into W19 eggs.
There is no World 20 portal after Red King in the current live ladder—so Drillmaster, Eternal Hall, Boss Raid, and rebirth titles remain the long-term power sinks once campaign worlds are done. Details live on the Worlds Guide.
How Drillmaster interacts with builds
- Beginner builds should clear every early HP drill before chasing Crit vanity—see Beginner Build.
- Speed-regen solos still want Attack drills once HP gates are done so iframe windows kill faster.
- Hero ornaments and Owned bonuses multiply a healthier base; drills make each of those multipliers mean more.
- Enchanting (World 3+) adds affixes on top—drills are the foundation under the affixes.
Suggested Drillmaster session plan
- Redeem XP codes and equip Prophet if you still need levels for the gate.
- Hit the required level without overshooting into wasted soft-cap time.
- Swap Priest / Ikun for the drill attempt.
- Clear HP drill first if you are dying in worlds; clear Attack drill first if clears are safe but slow.
- Rebirth when the next rebirth is available and repeat.
- After a new world unlock, immediately check whether the Drillmaster board grew.
Common Drillmaster mistakes
- Rebirthing past a gate without clearing the drill you just unlocked.
- Attempting high drills with zero iframe skills.
- Spending the portal gem fund on eggs while a free permanent HP multiplier sits unclaimed.
- Assuming World 19 is “just swords” and skipping its HP drill spikes.
- Forgetting drills after a long break—boards may have new tiers from updates.
Clear Drillmaster every rebirth, respect level and world locks, and treat World 19’s HP drills as mandatory endgame account work. Swords and heroes feel unfairly strong once the underlying HP/Attack yield is fully upgraded—and unfairly weak when it is not.
Frequently Asked Questions
Quick answers to the most common Sword Warriors questions.
What does Drillmaster upgrade?
Successful drills permanently improve how much HP or Attack you gain per stat point, which makes every post-rebirth rebuild stronger.
Should I do Drillmaster after every rebirth?
Yes. Rebirth, rebuild HP/Attack, climb to the next level gate, clear the drill, then continue. Skipping drills wastes permanent power.
Why is a drill locked even though I have the level?
Higher drills can stay locked until the next world opens or an update unlocks the board. Level gates and world/update locks both apply.
Why is World 19 special for Drillmaster?
World 19 Red King is known for large HP drill gains on top of its retro theme, world swords, and Spark of Motivation ornament.
Any tips for surviving hard drills?
Bring WhirlWind or Hurricane Slash iframes, equip Priest or a regen ornament, and use Ikun’s Sing Jump to stall packs while you free-hit.
